Hello! How would you feel about merging the Wiki with the Sims Wiki? You would retain the same rights and what not and we (Staff) would assist in the merge. In any case, we would need a consensus from both communities first before we'd go ahead with a merge.
What are the positives and negatives to this? I'll try and contact the founder about this first. Personally I wouldn't mind the extra help, considering I'm also active on another wiki and forgot about this one.
Edit: I messaged the founder and they said they wouldn't mind. Here's proof.
The Sims Wiki gets more traffic (1.4 Million per week) which would allow for more users to see and help out on pages pertaining to Sims Freeplay. The WM of the Sims Wiki created a forum suggesting the merge here. If you are for the merge, Id suggest making a post here on the Wiki to see how the rest of the Freeplay community feels about a merge. If both communities agree to it then we can move forward with the merge.
Hi CoolStar. So its been about a week since you made your post and no one has yet opposed the merge. Additionally, no one has opposed the merge on the Sims Wiki. Are we good to move forward with the merge?
Sorry to bump a past thread, but after reading the recent replies on the forum post, I agree it doesn't feel right for the admins here to keep the same rights there, especially if you don't know the wiki well enough. Is it still possible for a merge even if you don't want to be admin on that wiki?
Of course. Typically we want admins to retain their rights so that they dont feel like we're taking the wiki out from under them. That being said, if your okay with not retaining them and reapplying then I dont see why not.
CoolStar1998, I feel it's past time that I introduced myself. I'm LostInRiverview (or LiR for short), a bureaucrat and admin from The Sims Wiki.
I wanted to let you know that the proposal for a merger has been given consent by The Sims Wiki (TSW) community. That doesn't mean that we're ready to merge the wikis right this minute, though. What I'd greatly appreciate at this point is if you'd pop over to TSW, specifically this forum thread. I'm closing out the initial portion of the merger discussion, and looking to move towards some more technical discussion, as we lay the groundwork for the merge.
There's a bit that needs to be ironed out before the merge is completed. This wiki and TSW use different templates, and I'm guessing the templates you use here probably aren't on TSW yet, so we'll need to work on moving over the relevant templates to TSW and getting them to fit into our wiki theme. Most of your content pages should probably be able to move without difficulty, however some of your pages may have the same names as extant pages on TSW, so we'll have to determine how to address that. There might be other incidental issues that I haven't anticipated, which we can also sort out in due time, but getting most of the groundwork laid out before the merger would be best, in my opinion. I'd greatly appreciate your help in doing so, especially since you are much more familiar with the content, templates, and other elements of this wiki than I am.
As a final note, on the subject of the admin rights. I want you to know that it's not a personal thing against you. TSW has a very long history, and an established precedent and practice for how we nominate new admins. Admins on TSW are treated as community leaders, not just as experienced editors. I don't relish asking you to give up those rights in merging, and my hope is that if you can work with us to ready the wikis for merger, that you could demonstrate your capabilities to the TSW community and be fast-tracked for gaining admin rights there, once the merger is completed. I don't want to make promises though, as admins on TSW are selected through a community process that I do not control single-handedly.
Anyways, that's all I've really got for right now. I'd just like to close by restating my invitation for you, and any other Sims Freeplay editors, to join The Sims Wiki and help us lay the groundwork for merger.
If you want to talk to me more about this one-on-one, the best place to do so would probably be my talk page on The Sims Wiki.
